Huawei will no longer be able to use Android, Intel and Qualcomm chips on their mobiles

SHARE:

In a shocking development, Google halted its business operations with Huawei, a company well known for creating some of the best smartphones in the world. The Chinese company has lost access to Google effective immediately and will not be able to use the operating system on any of its new phones.

Additionally, some of the Google apps will also stop working on some of the Huawei devices. This news has sent a shockwave across the world as Huawei was gearing up to become the largest mobile manufacturer of the world by market share.

Google acted after Trump administration had added Huawei in their trade blacklist in the ongoing trade war against China. This makes it impossible for Huawei to conduct business with American companies which include Google, Intel, and Qualcomm.

Intel And Qualcomm also stop business with Huawei

If Google stopping its business with Huawei wasn’t already enough trouble for the smartphone giant, Intel, and Qualcomm, manufacturers of processors that power smartphones, some of which Huawei actively uses in its phones, have also decided to cut ties with the company.

Huawei’s Backup Plans

Given how big and successful Huawei has become, the company was already prepared for this outcome long before. According to reports, as far as the processors and chips go, Huawei has amassed a lot of these. The number of chips it has in stock will help the company to keep on developing phones for at least 3 months to come.

A source close to the company has revealed that Huawei was already working on its own chip that it’ll use on its phones, laptops, and other networking products.

Huawei has been working on an OS since the past 7 years

According to the South China Morning Post, the Chinese mobile manufacturer has been developing its own mobile operating system since 2012.

Additionally, the CEO of the company revealed last March that the company has developed its own operating system in case something unforeseeable happens. It seems the mobile phone manufacturer was prepared for this outcome and now it probably plans to use its own OS.

On the flipside, Huawei will still have access to open source Android which means it will still be able to develop phones and put on the operating system. But this will be at limited capacity with Google apps not working on the phone.

All that is left to see is how China will respond to this massive move by the U.S in the ongoing trade war between the two countries.
